Old School RuneScape is the classic RuneScape experience built around slow account progress, skilling, trading, PvM, PvP, quests, raids, and a player-driven economy. Gielinor keeps its old-school feel, but the game still moves forward with new quests, bosses, seasonal modes, systems, and community-voted updates.
Every OSRS account grows through planning. A player can train combat, work on Slayer, prepare for raids, gather skilling supplies, trade through the Grand Exchange, risk gear in the Wilderness, complete quests, build an Ironman, or save for long-term unlocks. Gold connects many of these goals, from early teleports and supplies to Bonds, gear upgrades, and raid setups.

Classic OSRS Progress
Old School RuneScape gives players a long account path instead of one fixed endgame route. Some accounts focus on bossing. Others focus on skilling, quests, collection logs, achievement diaries, minigames, PvP, trading, or Ironman restrictions.
Common OSRS goals include:
- Combat training through melee, ranged, magic, and Prayer.
- Slayer tasks with boss unlocks and long drop grinds.
- Quest unlocks for areas, transport, bosses, and account upgrades.
- Skilling goals across gathering, production, and support skills.
- PvM preparation for Barrows, God Wars, raids, and higher-tier bosses.
- Wilderness activity where gear risk, supplies, and escape items matter.
- Grand Exchange trading for supplies, loot, price checks, and long-term planning.

Gold, Bonds, and the Grand Exchange
Gold is one of the main planning tools in Old School RuneScape. Players spend GP on early supplies, skilling materials, quest items, PvM gear, PvP risk sets, runes, food, potions, and rare upgrades.
The Grand Exchange is where most OSRS market activity happens. Players buy supplies, sell drops, compare prices, test margins, and prepare for new goals through the market. Prices can move around boss demand, skilling methods, PvP activity, seasonal events, and new content.
Old School Bonds add another layer to the economy. Since Bonds are linked to membership, many players follow Bond prices when planning long-term account costs.
OSRS Updates in 2026
Old School RuneScape has a busy 2026 roadmap. In the official Summer 2026 Campfire Recap, Jagex outlined new quests, bosses, raid content, PvP work, client changes, and new game servers.
The next major release is The Blood Moon Rises, launching on June 30, 2026. This Grandmaster quest continues the Myreque storyline, sends players into Vampyrium, adds new skilling areas, and introduces the repeatable solo boss The Maggot King. Players preparing for it may need stats, gear, food, potions, teleports, quest items, and combat supplies.
Summer 2026 brings Wyrmscraig, a new island in the south-west sea of Gielinor. It comes with a new quest, Goat hunting, Golem crafting, a new Slayer Master, and the repeatable boss The Mad Angel.
In autumn 2026, Jagex plans The Graveyard, a Fremennik quest connected to the Weissmere sea. The roadmap also mentions Agility changes with different intensity options, which may affect players working on shortcuts, diaries, and movement unlocks.
Later in 2026, OSRS is set to receive The Fractured Archive, the first new endgame raid in more than four years. It is planned as a boss-rush raid with eight bosses and new Best-in-Slot rewards. Raid releases usually raise demand for PvM gear, runes, food, potions, and account preparation.
The roadmap also includes Summer Sweep Up quality-of-life work, Hunter progression changes, gear rebalancing, early-game items, PvP Tutorial work, mobile client updates, and new servers for Singapore, Japan, and South Africa.![]()
PvM, Skilling, PvP, and Long-Term Goals
OSRS players often move between goals. One week can be Slayer. The next can be Construction, raids, quests, clues, or Wilderness content.
PvM needs weapons, armour, food, potions, runes, and special gear. Skilling needs materials, tools, boosts, and unlocks. PvP needs replacement sets, escape supplies, and risk control. Questing needs item requirements, teleports, stats, and access planning.
That is why OSRS players usually think in goals, not just currency. A Bond, a quest chain, a raid setup, a PvP set, a skill target, or a boss grind can all lead back to GP.
Old School RuneScape and RuneScape 3
Old School RuneScape and RuneScape 3 are separate games with different combat systems, economies, visuals, pacing, and player habits.
OSRS has its own GP market, slower progression, classic combat, player-voted updates, and a different item economy. RuneScape 3 has its own gold flow, combat model, content rhythm, and player needs. A player looking for OSRS GP should not land in a RuneScape 3 flow.
