FC 27 introduces Streamlined SBCs, a new score-based format for most Player and Upgrade Squad Building Challenges.
Instead of building a full squad around Chemistry, positions, and squad OVR, you select eligible Player Items from your Club and submit enough Item Score to reach the target. FC 27 also supports duplicate Items and partial progress, while Traditional SBCs remain for puzzle-style Challenges.
For the wider FUT structure, see our FC 27 Ultimate Team guide or browse EA SPORTS FC Ultimate Team.
What Changed With SBCs in FC 27
Streamlined SBCs replace the full-squad format for the majority of Player and Upgrade SBCs.
The main changes are:
- no full starting XI for Streamlined SBCs
- no standard Chemistry or position puzzle
- Item Score replaces squad OVR as the main target
- eligible duplicates can contribute to the same target
- submissions can be made in stages
- some Challenges can still set a minimum OVR
- Traditional SBCs remain available
EA plans to adjust how often each format appears during the FC 27 cycle based on player feedback.
Streamlined SBCs vs Traditional SBCs
FC 27 uses both systems, but for different types of Challenges.
| Feature | Streamlined SBC | Traditional SBC |
|---|---|---|
| Full squad | No | Can be required |
| Chemistry | Generally not used | Can be required |
| Positions | Generally not used | Can be required |
| Squad OVR | Replaced by score target | Can be required |
| Item Score | Yes | No |
| Duplicate Items | Multiple versions can contribute | Standard squad rules apply |
| Partial progress | Yes | No |
| Main use | Player and Upgrade SBCs | Puzzle-style Challenge SBCs |
Streamlined SBCs focus on exchanging Club resources for a target reward. Traditional SBCs preserve the squad-building puzzles based on Chemistry, positions, leagues, nations, ratings, and related conditions.
How FC 27 SBC Item Score Works
Every eligible Item has an Item Score based on OVR and rarity.
The SBC sets a total target. Submitted Items add their scores until that target is reached.
FC 27 uses the same Item Score system for Streamlined SBCs and FUT Gallery progression.
A Streamlined SBC can contain an extra requirement. EA gives a Player of the Month Challenge as an example: every submitted Item could need at least 75 OVR, alongside the total score target.
Other SBCs may have no minimum OVR and require only the total Item Score.
EA has not published a universal score chart for every OVR and rarity, so exact Item values will depend on the system available in FUT.
How to Complete a Streamlined SBC
The new format removes the need to assemble a valid eleven-player squad.
- Open the Streamlined SBC.
- Check the target Item Score.
- Review any minimum OVR or eligibility requirement.
- Select eligible Items from your Club.
- Compare their contribution to the target.
- Submit the Items you want to exchange.
- Return later with more Items if the target is not complete.
- Claim the reward after reaching the required score.
Eligible Items appear directly in the submission interface, reducing the need to build around positions or Chemistry.
How to Choose Items for a Streamlined SBC
A score target can be reached with different combinations of Player Items.
EA specifically describes three approaches:
- more lower-rated Items
- fewer higher-rated Items
- a combination of both
The better choice depends on the SBC requirements and the Items already available in your Club.
A higher-rated Item can contribute more toward the target, but exchanging it may be inefficient if it has greater value elsewhere. Lower-rated Items can cover the same target in greater numbers when the Challenge permits them.
Before submitting an Item, check:
- its Item Score
- minimum OVR requirements
- rarity
- whether it is a duplicate
- whether you still need the playable Item
- its current Transfer Market value if tradeable
This changes SBC resource management. The question is no longer which eleven cards produce the required squad rating, but which combination reaches the target without giving up more useful Items than necessary.
Duplicate Items and Partial Progress
Two FC 27 changes directly affect Club management.
Duplicate Items
Streamlined SBCs can accept multiple versions of the same eligible Item, including duplicates, toward one score target.
That gives duplicate Player Items an immediate destination when they meet the requirements of an active SBC.
Partial Progress
A Streamlined SBC does not need to be completed in one submission.
You can contribute part of the required score, leave the SBC, acquire more Items, then return and continue from the saved progress.
This makes partial submissions useful when the Club does not contain enough eligible Items to reach the full target at once.
How Streamlined SBCs Connect to FUT Gallery
Streamlined SBCs and FUT Gallery share the same Item Score system.
Gallery tracks eligible Player Items that have passed through your Club. EA says an eligible Item can remain recorded in Gallery after the playable Item has been submitted into an SBC.
The Gallery record does not return the Item to the Club. The submitted playable Item is still exchanged for the SBC reward.
See our FC 27 FUT Gallery guide for Gallery Sets, Item Score, Set Grades, Gallery Level, Tokens, and Holographic Items.
Getting Missing Items for an SBC
If your Club cannot reach the required score, eligible Items can come from rewards, packs, Objectives, other SBCs, or the Transfer Market.
For tradeable Player Items, check current prices before buying cards solely for submission. Our FC 27 Transfer Market guide covers market searches, bidding, Price Ranges, selling, and tax.
Players who have collected their available rewards but still lack the balance for a required tradeable Item can check FC 27 Coins.
