Holy Paladin Guide PvE for WoW WotLK Classic

In the raid, the Holy Paladins commit themselves to a healing spell, which is mainly used and promoted. But which focus is worthwhile when? In this Holy Paladin Guide for WoW WotLK Classic we will clarify this question.

The Holy Paladin is considered easy to play. After all, he has only three effective healing spells as well as some complementary abilities that simplify life as a healer. But if you look a little deeper into the mechanics of the Holy Paladin, you will find many details that you have to pay attention to. One of the most frequently asked questions is: “Do I prefer Holy Light or do I prefer a Flash of Light? Which spell is more effective?”. Discussions about this question have been raging since the start of Wrath of the Lich King Classic. The decision is quite simple and we will show you why in this Holy Paladin (Healer) Guide for WotLK Classic. Each of these spells has its weaknesses and strengths.

WoW WotLK Classic Holy Paladin Guide

If you fight your way through many raids, a focus on Holy Light proves to be more effective. With 5-man instances and easyer raids such as the Trial of the Crusader, you can handle it more elegantly with the Flash of Light. Properly played, a Flash of Light focus can also exist in the Icecrown Citadel. We’ll show you when a focus on Holy Light makes sense and when the little flash of light steals the show from its big brother.

The comparison – Flash of Light vs. Holy Light

Focus on the Flash of Light:

Focus on Holy Light:

Low overhealing.

+ Extremely strong single spell healing.

+ Very mana saving.

+ Huge amount of mana.

+ Advantages in movement-intensive fights, as cast very quickly.

+ Can heal heavy damage on up to two targets easily for several minutes on its own.

+ Strong combination with Holy Shock and Sacred Shield.

+ Divine Plea regenerates extremely high amount of mana, thanks to required larger amount of mana.

+ Strong to bring group damage many players back to green in a flash.

+ Easier to learn thanks to fewer spell combinations.

+ Sacred Shield absorbs more damage thanks to Spellpower Focus.

+ Glyph "Holy Light" heals close targets of the spell slightly as well.

+ The 4th bonus from the T9 set is very strong.

- Weaker than Holy Light at massive damage to single players, as less healing per second.

- Slight disadvantages in movement-intensive combat.

- Low mana amount prevents long use of Holy Light when damage is high.

- Requires strong mana balance.

- Requires a lot of spellpower to be effective.

- Slight weaknesses with group damage on more than two targets.

Conclusion: Although the advantages outweigh the disadvantages at first, the focus on Holy Light is clearly stronger in raids. In 5-person instances and easier raids, the Flash of Light focus scores more points.

Conclusion: Clearly the better choice in raids, as the Holy Light variant perfectly combines and promotes the strengths of the Holy Paladin. In group damage, however, it is somewhat weaker than the Flash of Light.

Holy Paladin WotLK – Focus Flash of Light

Flash of Light is one of the most mana-effective healing spells in the game. It costs very few blue juice, but heals a moderate amount of health. It also has a high critical hit chance, which indirectly lowers its mana cost. This is due to the Illumination talent, which gives you 30% of the base mana cost of the spell if it critically hits. Just be aware that focusing on Flash of Light does not completely eliminate the need for your Holy Light. You can still use this spell, just like Holy Shock. But we’ll get to the details later in this Holy Paladin Guide for WoW WotLK Classic.

When does the focus on Flash of Light make sense?

Committing to the path as a Flash of Light spammer is mostly a waste as a raid healer. There, your skills are mostly used as a tank healer. The tanks take such heavy hits to the armor that you’ll do a little better with a heavy use of Holy Light. As a group healer in raids, on the other hand, the Flash of Light variant is quite interesting. It’s just that paladins are rarely used as group healers. So use the Flash of Light focus if you only run with your healer in 5-player instances and beginner raids like Trial of the Crusader in 10-player mode.

The Flash of Light foundation

Flash of Light Spammers literally bombard your group members with the smallest of all Paladin heals, so overhealing is very low. This, in turn, ensures that Spellpower moves up to be your most important stat. You increase the healing of the Flash of Light without unnecessarily increasing the overhealing of the Holy Light. Spellpower also benefits the second of your important abilities, the Sacred Shield. It absorbs 500 damage plus 75 percent of your spellpower.

The second value you aim for is haste rating. Your goal is to reduce the casting time of the Flash of Light as much as possible and thus get close to one second of casting time. Lowering it further doesn’t make sense, because the spell time can’t fall below the global cooldown of at least one second. Thus, an even faster cast Flash of Light would be useless. So you should not accumulate more than 676 haste rating. Your talent Judgements of the Pure increases the spell casting speed by an additional 15 percent anyway.

Intelligence is not as important as when focusing on the Holy Light. The amount you already get on equipment is usually enough to control the mana budget as a Flash of Light spammer. Critical Strike Rating doesn’t have a high value either, as your Flash of Light combined with the Sacred Shield often enough heals double the amount. If you follow these simple instructions from the Holy Paladin Guide for WotLK Classic, you will certainly not disappoint anyone from the raid.

Necessary Talents

To support the Flash of Light in the best possible way, the Holy Paladin has several talents. Illumination is mandatory as a healer anyway, to control the mana balance a bit better. Also, Infusion of Light works well with your focus with Flash of Light. The talent makes the next use of your Flash of Light ability an instant spell, provided your Holy Shock lands a critical hit.

We have already addressed directional judgments of the pure. The 15 percent increase in spell speed, along with a powerful haste boost, turns your Flash of Light spammer into a powerhouse. Well-equipped characters fire the Flashes of Light every second, healing any fellow combatant at lightning speed, even with massive group damage. To make sure that the heals come out with some power, you of course take all talents that support your Flash of Light in the healed value (Healing Light) or increase the critical hit chance.

Holy Paladin WotLK – Focus Holy Light

The big brother of the Flash of Light is the Holy Light. This healing spell heals a significantly larger amount, but also costs considerably more mana and has a higher casting time of 2.5 seconds. Previously, it was nearly impossible to use Holy Light permanently. With Wrath of the Lich King Classic, the developers introduced some mechanics that allow continuous use with the appropriate equipment. Since then, the focus on Holy Light has established itself as the “raid version” of the modern Holy Paladin. While you can also complete many bosses with a Focus on Flash of Light, you will only become a true tank healer with a Focus on Holy Light. In this section of the Holy Paladin Guide for WotLK Classic, we’ll show you what to look out for.

The base is mana

When using the ability Holy Light, mana plays a crucial role. This is because this ability is considered one of the most expensive spells in the game. So if you don’t want to be without mana within a minute, you need to focus on maximum mana. Spell power is therefore not that important, but more about that later. Your most important value is intelligence. It increases your maximum mana and indirectly controls the regeneration of mana. In the raid, you can use effects like Replenishment, which regenerate mana on a percentage basis. So, the more maximum mana you have, the higher the MP5 (mana regeneration every five seconds). The Divine Plea ability also regenerates 25% of your total mana over 15 seconds.

The recommended glyph is “Seal of Wisdom”. It reduces the mana cost of all spells by five percent when the Seal of Wisdom is active. Especially with Holy Light, the savings are worth it, and there is no real alternative glyph.

Why is spellpower not so important?

What other stats you need could be answered with “the usual suspects”. Critical strike and MP5 improve your mana budget a bit. The former of course also increases your healed value, while MP5 is considered useless by quite a few paladins. However, you often can’t avoid MP5 on your equipment, as Blizzard likes to distribute this value widely. But what about Spellpower? After all, it increases the healed value of Holy Light enormously. You can add a whopping 166 percent of the spell power to the base healing. But that’s exactly the point.

Therefore, equipment should never be designed for spell power. This value is on every reasonable healer item for paladins anyway. The spell power thus obtained is also quite sufficient to powerfully improve the Holy Light. If you add sockets and enchantments to the Spell Power, you’ll be giving away even more energy in overhealing than the Holy Light already does. Therefore, Spell Power is not a bad value, but it is not as important as other healers.

These are the stats you need as a Holy Paladin (Healer) in WotLK

Depending on whether your focus is on the Holy Light or the smaller Flash of Light, you’ll need to get different equipment. Even the gems and enchantments differ slightly. We have sorted the exact stats you need by importance for you in this section of the Holy Paladin Guide for WotLK.

Focus on Flash of Light:

  1. Spell Power
  2. Haste
  3. Critical Strike Rating
  4. Intelligence
  5. MP5

Focus on Holy Light:

  1. Intelligence
  2. Haste
  3. Spell Power
  4. Critical Strike Rating
  5. MP5

Conclusion

So you see, thanks to the Holy Paladin Guide for WotLK Classic, that even a focus on certain healing spells is always connected with the use of other spells. A focus on only one spell makes little sense, otherwise your teammates will die too often. In both ways of playing, it is the mix with a focus that brings success. So if you follow our tips, you won’t have any more problems. We definitely recommend focusing on Holy Light as a raid healer. Even though Flash of Light spammers can manage there. With a focus on Holy Light, it’s definitely easier and overhealing doesn’t matter as long as you have enough mana.
